Six weeks of age, they are becoming quite assertive! Working in the garden, you have to be really careful not to step on them – they sneak up from behind and grab onto your shoes, or do a complete end-run (a herding ‘cast‘) around in front of you and try to ‘steer’ you where [...] The rain today put a bit of a dampener (sorry!) on our plans. Sooty and Shadow still spent over half the day outside cavorting in the yard, interacting with visitors that came and went. Gem, Gill (and her dogs) and I went for a long walk in the afternoon – the longest Gem has [...] The reality of the pups going away soon begins to hit. [...] With only a week to go before the kids leave home at 8wks (not 18 years, or 28+ years as humans do…) I thought it was time for a change of scenery. I’ve been struggling to use my kitchen for the last two months, stumbling over the crèche several times a day. It was [...] Reclaiming the kitchen at last. [...] The pups learn the lessons they need to be independent from Gemma. [...] Well… it’s very hard to satisfy everyone. There are only four girls to go around, and plenty of interest. I’ve narrowed my choice down to two that would be suitable for the kinds of activities Gemma and I do. That is, lots of exercise, obedience, agility, and loooooong walks. Often in excess of 30km [...] The pups had a day out of the house today, visiting Auntie Jacqui’s for a photoshoot and the vet for a 6-week healthcheck and C4 vaccination. If only they were as compliant in the morning as they were at the vets! [...] Waking to the canine chorus. “Feed me!” [...] The pups experienced their first thunderstorm last night. Border Collies traditionally hate thunderstorms, but Gemma has never been bothered by them. In fact, she earned her Novice (CD) title in the middle of a huge electrical storm. What a trooper. It seems that she’s passed on this indifference to her pups. Neither the booms, [...] |
