A small trial today, only a handful of dogs. Finn was the second of two dogs in Novice. Considering he’s only done the full set of exercises about six times, and the stays only twice (including today!) he did remarkably well. I was actually more worried about handling him than his performance; I haven’t [...] 25 19/19 14/14/15 26 20 10/25 = 187, two points more than we need (note that’s four perfect scores there: 15, 20, 10 and 25) (-5 -1/-1 -1/-1/0 -4 0 0 0) It was good enough to win the ring, so we ended up making a profit of $1 on the weekend, if [...] Gem is a willing worker, but she doesn’t like to be pinned down or bored for a long time. Up to two hours, she’ll still work. Today, after arriving for check-in at 09:15, the poor girl had to wait until nearly 14:00 before she had her turn at the RNCAS Royal obedience trial. She [...] We train at CDC, in the UD ring – but with Gemma missing the trials last year due to her second litter, it has been somewhere between a year and 18 months since we’ve actually competed in our home ring. Today we broke that drought, and it wasn’t the only drought broken. It rained. [...] A worrying start to the day today. We turned up to check in to the double obedience trial at Tuggeranong today, to find we weren’t in the catalogue! Luckily, the Trial Manager remembered seeing our entry (we posted it very early) and the grounds are a hop, step and jump away from home. …so [...] Tonight Gem and I had our first Obedience trial since early January. It was a small affair at our home club, but crammed into a “free run” ring instead of the proper Obedience rings. One with half the usual lighting, and the distraction of an Agility class two rings away. In theory. Only, the [...] No, she isn’t a mutant hell-bent on world domination. Now that she has her UD title, she needs five UD qualifications at a score of 185 or better to earn her (much coveted!) “Obedience Champion” (OC) title. Or should I say… she needs four more In one of her best performances to date, [...] She’s been working really well in practice, but there are so many extra distractions when in a real trial. She worked brilliantly, except for two “substantial” deductions (one in the Scent Discrim for not completing the ‘finish’ – she got all three articles though!) I don’t have the scores to hand, but she only [...] …and uncork it in front of a Judge at a Trial! Gemma blew my socks off today in UD practice. A very strict judge would have had difficulty finding even ten points (out of 200) to take off this evening’s run. Even her finishes were straight and spot-on, with a sinlge exception. This was [...] Despite huge distractions tonight, Gemma came close to passing UD again in an actual trial. She was continually looking around at the people talking just outside the ring, but the thing that really did us in was the metal article again – not that she wouldn’t pick it up, but that it was very [...] |
