A shorter wait, and bingo! OC pass #3!

25 19/19 14/14/15 26 20 10/25 = 187, two points more than we need

(note that’s four perfect scores there: 15, 20, 10 and 25)

(-5   -1/-1  -1/-1/0   -4   0  0  0)

It was good enough to win the ring, so we ended up making a profit of $1 on the weekend, if [...]

Home ground at last

We train at CDC, in the UD ring – but with Gemma missing the trials last year due to her second litter, it has been somewhere between a year and 18 months since we’ve actually competed in our home ring.

Today we broke that drought, and it wasn’t the only drought broken.

It rained.

Some days, you just can't lose

Tonight Gem and I had our first Obedience trial since early January.

It was a small affair at our home club, but crammed into a “free run” ring instead of the proper Obedience rings.  One with half the usual lighting, and the distraction of an Agility class two rings away.

In theory.

Gemma’s five legs

No, she isn’t a mutant hell-bent on world domination.

Now that she has her UD title, she needs five UD qualifications at a score of 185 or better to earn her (much coveted!) “Obedience Champion” (OC) title.

Imagine – being able to curl up and have a kip anywhere you like!

Imagine – being allowed to romp around and explore that Forbidden Land that  you’ve always [...]

Two down, one to go! Another UD pass

It was a long wait today, til about 2pm… but we finally got our turn in the ring.

She was the only girl to pass today, and only one boy passed (the dogs and bitches were in separate classes today) so she collected first place by default   We made a healthy profit on [...]

What’s my Motivation?

Practice UD round at the club today.

We were also breaking in a new set of leathers (as well as the knurls).

Seekback: perfect, she tracked like a bloodhound

Directed Jumping: she bolted to the square, turned, faced square on, and sat, then bolted over the jumps.  Near perfect.

Scent Discrim: Wood, I hardly [...]

A-Knurling we will go…

Another session today with the knurled metal articles, of at least 14 attempts… and she got the right object each and every time.  I laid out a complete set of decoys (unscented) and used each of seven knurled metal objects, with varying amounts of “effort” into the scenting-up in my hands.

The wood and [...]
