Free at last! Heather has been zipping out and in the doggy-door for the last day or so, albeit with the flap locked up and open to offer no resistance. Last night, she had her first taste of freedom of movement. For the first time, she was completely free to go anywhere she wanted [...] Oh dear. We went along to a fun-with-Agility night tonight, but didn’t have a lot of fun. I knew it was going to be a long night when as we arrived Gemma tip-toed over a patch of dead clover, and tried to walk around it. Along with a huge number of dead Clover flowers [...] Fingers crossed here First, it was “please go outside through the sliding door” for a few months. Accidents became fewer, but it still happened. Toilet training happens when it happens. After much convincing, she finally learned to use the doggy-door. She didn’t like it, but she would use it if asked. She would [...] It’s been a bit hectic around here lately, but we are starting to make some real progress. Tonight, both Shadow and Walker responded to a “Come!” cue. Walker just stood in front as he has been Show ring-trained to do. Shadow did the whole “straight sit in front” bit that she’s seen Mum do. [...] This morning as I slumbered, I heard the slap-slap-slap-slap of the doggy door – only Gemma was fast asleep in her crate, and Shadow was secure in hers So far, he hasn’t disgraced himself and now that he can come and go when he pleases, I don’t think he’s likely to. He’s still [...] It’s been a regular hive of activity here for the last few days as the old fence and backyard were razed and the new fence raised. There is still much to do, but the vast bulk of the contractor work is now complete. This, of course means that almost all of the rest of [...] October 17th 2005 Gemma came home with me. Today, she’s being mercilessly teased by her own daughter… who has had a few ‘accidents’ today due to brief periods of inattention. Sigh. Our Utility practice session this morning was going pretty well up until the signals exercise. We’d only dropped a handful of points overall. She didn’t want to hold the ‘down’ position I had to give several cues on more than one occasion to get Gemma to stay put in the ‘down’ position, and [...] We braved the unstable weather today and went for our first ‘real’ run in ages. A loop around the lake with side trips equates to about 10km, added to about 1km of chasing the Aerobie at the big oval. Gem isn’t quite in tip-top shape yet, but she still managed nearly 2km flat-out at [...] Our Lodger, Sooty, winged his way to his new Melbourne home at lunchtime today. Early accounts suggest that he’s having a great old time in his new home, and has already stolen a heart or two. We did a bit of shopping for Shadow today, and fitted her out with a new crate to [...] |
