Finn, Heather and I got up at sparrow-fart today to head to Goulburn. We would have been much better off sleeping… The 3-6 sweepstakes went fairly well (in performance terms) but we went nowhere. Nor did any of the many BCs in the large field. Finn was up against two Grand Champions and a [...] We’re just back from CDC and a great performance in Mock-Trial City. The motivational/aversion reduction training we did yesterday clearly worked. She did one of her best seek-backs ever (but the heelwork was a bit loose) She did two near-perfect directed jumps, both at speed. She got all three articles in the Scent Discrim [...] Heather is looking like Twiggy at the moment. All legs and a long body! Her big ears are still too heavy to prick up, but are almost there. She’s tracking with Pepper, at 11.25kg… and is almost as tall as her mother already! At Agility training last night, Gem was consistently dropping one particular [...] We haven’t had a weigh in for a few weeks but knew the little hiefer was getting bigger and heavier. This morning at 18 weeks (4.5 months) he hit the 11kg mark. While the stays are progressing slowly and there’s zilch chance of the ‘stay’ part of the recall, I hope we can do at [...] It seems that his union with Willow (Ch. Cardlenglish Willow) was successful, and she is now well into her term! She played hard-to-get but eventually stayed in one place long enough to do the deed. Once is all it took! Looks like there could be some half-sibling, half-niece/nephew puppies for Heather and Pepper to [...] We’ve done a few tests lately, to try and isolate the performance problem in Trials – Gemma loses her confidence, and won’t bring back the metal article. In training, she will almost always bring it back – but only when we work alone. Her only sign of aversion to the metal is making sure [...] After a spot of training in the midday sun with Gemma (yes, she got all three articles in no-time-flat because it was training and not a trial) I figured it was a good day for a swim. Gemma loves to herd balls and sticks in the back-eddies of the river. She measures the current, [...] Well, we had a joint training session today – and it went much as expected, unfortunately. Gemma did everything else, but AGAIN refused to pick up the metal article from the centre of the pile (having clearly identified it)… and she lagged and missed two positions in the Signals exercise – but did a [...] Heather had her 16 week booster shots during the week, a little earlier than planned because Finn picked up a grass seed in the webbing of his inner right toes The brave boy needed no chemical assistance during the removal of said seed, which was well and truly embedded. The red welt went [...] CDC put on a ‘mock trial’ for aspiring competitors on Saturday, which we entered. Any practice on a ground we are about to trial on is probably a good thing! Gemma did almost everything, but behaved as though being asked to do it at gunpoint. It looked like Gemma, but whoever it was [...] |
