Heather’s sled-dog impression just had to stop before it becomes a habit. Her first big lesson in the big wide world of distractions was walking beside me for a few steps at a time – which took a good few minutes to achieve. Her natural instinct is always to run to the absolute limit [...] Heather with a toy in her mouth! Not a sock. Not my underwear. Not a piece of what used to be a magazine or cardboard box. Not a piece of what used to be tree. Not a mouthful of dirt and grass roots. Not her mother’s collar. An actual toy! One of her own, [...] Following in a long-standing tradition, Heather has passed her initiation exam for the pack. She chewed the heel out of my $200 Agility boots, just like her sister and her mother before her (albeit with more refined, expensive taste than her predecessors!) I’ve only worn the damn things for about 80 minutes in total. [...] The odour of oestrus isn’t the only thing following Shadow around like a bad smell Finn is making little chirping noises not unlike a bird the size of your thumb, bounding about and trying so hard to impress Shadow with his attributes. Shadow, for her part, is sending all the signals too. It’s [...] Yesterday morning Pepper, Rosie and I went down to Dickson, which is about 4km return, which took about 1.5 hours, including a pickup at Deek’s Cafe. Last autumn I used to run it in about 20 minutes – grow Pepper legs, grow, lol. Which brings me to the question – How far / how long [...] Gemma was ever so jealous to see Finn flirting with another girl! She was all over me like a bad smell afterwards, re-asserting her position as top-dog! It’ll be the first of two or three actual ties, the previous few being too early and thus never consummated. A year ago today, we finally pulled our finger out and started our own ‘blog! It’s been a fun time, both rewarding and at times cathartic. I wish there were some big announcement I could make at this anniversary, but in truth we are in a consolidation and rebuilding phase across the board right [...] Let’s just hope it isn’t with Shadow! He had a good flirt with his new friend today, but she wasn’t quite ready. From his reaction, she isn’t far off, and certainly much closer than Shadow who should be in the ‘danger zone’ in a few days. More news when it is to hand, but [...] What a week it has been, so much has happened that it feels more like several months than just seven days! Monday we went off to the vet for Pepper’s vaccination or ‘ticket to the world’. He was a very good puppy, even though mummy got the time wrong and turned up at 8.30 [...] |
