With a last minute change of cast (judge) we embarked on our first UD trial of 2009. With the way Gemma has been performing lately in practice, I had hopes that we might make the breakthrough tonight. It wasn’t to be. Noone passed in the end. We all blew a part of a multipart [...] Gem had the day off today, for a change. The day was about Finn and Shadow and the Show ring. Since Finn was going anyway, and Shadow is still a “baby puppy” there wasn’t much to lose in trying. This was Shadow’s first ever public exhibition, and she was absolutely determined to be on [...] Gemma had her first dry Agility Trial run on Monday night, and did very well apart from the weaving poles – she popped out with only one more to go. Sigh. My fault, for not doing enough training. We stayed around to steward for the upper classes. Afterwards we took advantage of the Utility [...] It may not have been a clear round today, but Gemma did pretty well in our UD practice today. The only exercise she bombed was the second “Directed Jump” – by not actually making it to the send-square the second time. That’s happened in trials too; I can understand the first time, but the [...] Shadow has grown quite a bit in the last month, and she’s looking fine. Gone is the porcupine “long hair sticking through undercoat” look, and in comes the proper coat, which is beginning to lustre up. She passed 10kg this week, too. It’s hard to know where she keeps it all, because she looks [...] Busy day yesterday – we had some competitions to enter. Shadow and Finn will be in the Bungendore PA&H show. Shadow, just because we’re going anyway, and we have nothing to lose except a few dollars, and plenty of experience to gain. We’ve also (finally) found accommodation for the Bermagui trials, and sent off [...] The recent hot weather has done no good to the kids play area – the lawn is very stressed I’m afraid. Shadow stayed home while Finn and Gemma went down to the river for a swim this afternoon. Today, I only gently tugged on the lead to get Finn in the water. He made [...] Gemma had a good UD run-through at the club on Friday; the only thing that went ‘wrong’ is losing sight of the glove in the very long grass at the very last exercise – quite understandable! It offered an opportunity for training, so we proceeded to ramp the criteria on the “directed retrieve” to [...] As Finn gets fitter, his pulling is beginning to get annoying – so we left Shadow at home and went for a 10km walk to see what we could learn in that time. Manners, is the answer. Retractable leash in hand, and with a pocket full of treats, we set off for a loop [...] |
