Gemma likes an occasional tin of sardines in oil. It helps keep her coat soft and shiny, and being full of Omega 3 is good for her brain too. She’s not alone. Shadow and Walker did the same disappearing act on their dinner tonight. Not so much eaten as inhaled. They are very [...] With intermittent rain this afternoon, it seemed a perfect time to do a bit of training. Walker will now walk forward several metres to touch the target hand, and even keep going if it moves forward (at least sometimes.) He’s learning to heel. Without a lead of course. He’s also had a recognisable go [...] The weather has been… unpredictable today, but as luck would have it we missed the rain by minutes. Our second walk of the day was mid afternoon instead of evening because I’m busy tonight, and I wanted to make sure Shadow and Walker got a good workout. There’s somewhat of a difference between Walker’s [...] Tia (Bandit) is doing well, and is brushing up against 7kg now. She looks like a clone of her mother at the same age. With a bit of luck, she’ll be around for a visit early next week. Like Walker, she doesn’t like to be kept waiting once the sun comes up… and decides [...] Just before Gemma came into season in May/June this year, we were about to seek assessment for promotion to the “Novice” level of Agility training, and start a serious tilt at trialling. Literally the next lesson! Obviously, puppies put that on the back burner. Tonight, we had a “pretty good” night at training and [...] Walker will now advance to touch an outstretched hand, whether left or right, up or down He’ll even take a few steps forward to do it. So will Shadow. Shadow will do a ‘come’ and sit in front, where Walker will ‘stack’ instead. I’m teaching him to ‘stack’ when I hold up my [...] Auntie Jacqui dropped in for a visit a few hours ago to check on his progress. I’m pleased to report that this afternoon, after seeing Gemma and Shadow enjoy a bit of grooming, he actually stood to be brushed. Not at first, mind you – but when he realised that this wasn’t going to [...] Another milestone in his recovery and education in canine affairs – Walker actually learned to play with a toy today – a string of plastic sausages on a rope. He saw how much fun Shadow was having and decided to have a go, and lo! he enjoyed it. Both kids still have a bit [...] At the last weigh-in, Shadow topped the scales at 8.3kg while Gemma barely made 16.5kg. Yes folks, it’s official… Shadow is half the dog that Gemma is Shadow is now doing a proper ‘come’ (not the leave part, just the come-and-sit-front) whenever she’s not too busy doing her puppy business [finding any object [...] It’s been a bit hectic around here lately, but we are starting to make some real progress. Tonight, both Shadow and Walker responded to a “Come!” cue. Walker just stood in front as he has been Show ring-trained to do. Shadow did the whole “straight sit in front” bit that she’s seen Mum do.
