Shadow had her first run with the ‘big kids’ in her combined Level 4/Novice Agility class tonight. She was uncharacteristically slow and hesitant, and I’m not entirely sure why. She had two goes at a certain infamous Novice course from some weeks back (with seven side changes) and was forever putting me off balance [...] It’s been a thrill-a-minute here for the last couple of weeks. Shadow did her utmost to convince everyone that she could come into season too; she still has me a little worried that she did, even though it is very unlikely that the bleeding was internal – it was just one symptom of a [...] It seems that Shadow has fallen for the old ‘converging cycles’ ploy. I’ve been checking her routinely (especially now that Heather is ‘in’) but found nothing unusual, no sign whatever – and certainly no swelling. Today, still no swelling, but Finn is all over her like, well… a bad smell. There is, however, a [...] Whoops. At BDOC this morning, Gemma lost only 7 points, if you don’t count the two missed positions in the Signals exercise. Which the judge didn’t, because the lowest score you can get in an exercise is zero (technically -20, being -10 for fouling the ring, and -10 for running out…). Sigh. She was [...] Shadow has only had about six goes at weaving, adding a pair of gates each time – and even though most of the gates have an offset of 5-10cm, she’s already got the idea! She’s curling around the poles like a pro, which she most certainly is not! We might even get to a [...] Very few surprises really. I didn’t think she’d like the tunnel, and she didn’t. I thought she’d enjoy it after the first pass (and a jackpot!) and lo! She did. Within 4-5 times, she was running with me and diving through the tunnel on the left and right! Contact ramps, she was OK on [...] Oh so early, oh so hot… Heather was the most willing to work. Apart from breaking into a gallop in the 6-12 sweepstakes, she did amazingly well for a pup who is still wet behind the ears. She didn’t make the cut in sweepies, but she won her class, but fell in the Bitch [...] Gemma is getting stir-crazy already. She’s mad-keen to get out the front door, poor girl. However, this was Shadow’s night. Her tryout for Agility training. My expectations were not high after having to give her a stern talking-to about obeying instructions on her morning walk. She refused to come when called. Tonight, she was [...] Apart from the obvious constraints that Summer puts on our activities (ie, virtually no shows or trials, having to hide indoors for 8 hours a day to avoid the heat…) there is another season looming. Watching the kids interact, there are early signs that Gemma is approaching her next season. Finn is more interested [...] We’ve always ‘blown off’ the Agility games as being a bit of a distraction, but there’s a small Snooker trial on tomorrow night, and they ran a special bonus class tonight with two Novice Snooker courses. Why bother playing it safe? I ‘went for it’ as they say, and tried for good scores and [...] |
