Pepper puts on his dancin' shoes

An interesting hour last night at CDC to listen the Dances with Dogs presentation.  I am far more excited about this than I have ever been over obedience and already have some songs and ideas picked out!  The newest AKA sport seems to be a combination of obedience, agility and tricks all rolled into [...]

A dry run of the ET

Ang (Pepper’s new ‘mum’) kindly agreed to be Finn’s handler in the official ANKC “Endurance Test” next month.

Before inflicting him on an unsuspecting Angela on the day, we agreed it would be a good idea to have a practice run on the same grounds today.

I am very proud of my kids (and [...]

A study in black and white

A lovely day today – good for long walks.  Apart from the pocket JATO attached to my waist, that is.  (JATO: Jet Assisted Take-Off booster rocket, used to get planes airborne)

It does indeed look like the blood from Shadow was nothing to do with her fertility.  If she’d been in season, I would [...]

Flaming Firewalls

Ye gads.

I thought we were over this!

Over the last few weeks, the firewall machine has burned its way through four different hard disk drives.  No sooner was it operational again, and almost fully serviceable… than it threw another hard drive.  Not once, not twice, but four times in a row.

Needless to [...]

One door opens, another closes...

Way back when Shadow was knee-high to a grasshopper, she decided she did NOT want to be left outside.

She clawed and bit at the screen door but never quite got through it.  Bugs and vermin did, though.

Then Shadow got big enough and brave enough to force the hole bigger and get her [...]

12 poles? Already?

Shadow has only had about six goes at weaving, adding a pair of gates each time – and even though most of the gates have an offset of 5-10cm, she’s already got the idea!

She’s curling around the poles like a pro, which she most certainly is not!

We might even get to a [...]

Shadow’s first Agility class

Very few surprises really.

I didn’t think she’d like the tunnel, and she didn’t.  I thought she’d enjoy it after the first pass (and a jackpot!) and lo!  She did.   Within 4-5 times, she was running with me and diving through the tunnel on the left and right!

Contact ramps, she was OK on [...]

Passed with flying colours

Gemma is getting stir-crazy already.  She’s mad-keen to get out the front door, poor girl.

However, this was Shadow’s night.  Her tryout for Agility training.  My expectations were not high after having to give her a stern talking-to about obeying instructions on her morning walk.  She refused to come when called.

Tonight, she was [...]

Hanged, drawn and quartered?

Isn’t that the fate that awaits a traitor?

This morning, I had to wear a different hat on our morning walk because my usual ones were nowhere to be found, including the “Australian Flag” baseball cap I usually wear in the AM.

This morning, I discovered why it wasn’t anywhere I looked.

I found [...]

Competitive walking…

Why is it that if you take two or more dogs for a walk at the same time, they all end up racing each other and the poor human gets pulled every which way?

Why, too, will the same dogs – individually – walk politely at heel?

I think it’s a competitive thing – [...]
